the wave now definitely dies down

It's after 9 a.m., so yesterday's 24-hour period has come to an end for my site meter. Unique visits: only 35,057. Compare that to over 120K a few days ago. I expect the numbers to go down to under 5,000 a day, which strikes me as reasonable. But with my month-to-date stats showing me at over 630K total visits, I'm morbidly curious as to whether the bots will carry me over the edge of a million visits ("visits") for the month of June. Ah, this whole stats thing is such a hollow pursuit, and given its unreality, I can't take it seriously.

Still, what other metric do I have? Google Analytics 4 is a possibility. It excludes bots when counting the stats. My fear is that, if it gives me an accurate count of human visits only, I'll discover I'm only getting under 200 human visits per day.

UPDATE: I've installed the Google Analytics Measurement ID in my blog (via Blogger's "settings" feature), which means I can log on to Google Analytics 4 and begin to see stats. There's a warning that it may take up to 24 hours for a proper batch of stats to be collected. I'd rather have Analytics accessible with a single click, but it seems the best I can do is log on to Analytics every time I want to see what's going on. And I had a small flash of enlightenment as well: the bloated "unique visits" stat has never corresponded with my per-post stats. The latter stats have always been small and modest. I rarely see a post, these days, with more than 100 visits. If I knew a way to collate those stats into a daily number, I think that that would give me a much more accurate daily-visit count.
