Happy Lunar New Year!

It's the Year of the Golden Pig, which probably represents some sort of prosperity, so here's to you: peace, blessings, and a very prospero año nuevo.

I thought a lechon picture would be apropos:

2019 is the year I pay off the rest of my scholastic debt and begin the process of saving up a ton of cash, so let's let the cosmic porker work its divine magic.

Since we live in fake-news times, it's interesting to note that the English-language newspapers about Korea are in conflict as to whether this year, 2019, is indeed the Year of the Golden Pig. Before we hit the newspapers, we'll note that Wikipedia says 2019 is the Year of the Earth Pig. Meanwhile, the Korea Times says 2019 is the Year of the Golden Pig, while this supposedly 2019-published article in the Seoul Times says the Year of the Golden Pig was in 2007, and that such an auspicious year comes once every 600 years. (The Korea Times article says once every 60 years, which is consistent with the sexagenary lunar-calendar cycle.) I suspect the Seoul Times article is suffering from editing difficulties, but I'd need to research more widely to settle the question of whether we are, indeed, in the Year of the Golden Pig. Well, whichever pig year it is, it's supposed to be a financially good one.

UPDATE: this Arirang News video says it's definitely the Year of the Golden Pig, which is the same as the Year of the Earth Pig. The segment also says that 2007 was "marketed" as the Year of the Golden Pig despite actually being the Year of the Red Pig. So... mystery solved? Contradictions resolved? We all good, now? I hope so.
