I think we're finally deflating

I think the artificial surge in site stats is just about over. It's a bit after 5:30 p.m. as I write this. The 24-hour period monitored by my blog's site meter goes from 9 a.m. to 9 a.m., so it's been about eight-and-a-half hours. On June 4, when the surge started, I suddenly had 59,305 unique visits. On June 5: 128,767 visits. Yesterday, June 6: 194,515 visits. Today, after eight hours, I'm at only 7,761 visits, so I doubt I'll be over 100K by the end of the day. Tomorrow, the stats will have shrunk a bit more as the surge dies down. It's sad, but it's also a relief. The whole thing was a bubble. And I still don't know why it happens.

If I got zero visits for the rest of this month, though, I would still have record-level stats of over 423K visits total. A most anomalous June, this is.

  1. I've just experienced my first AI-generated comments on my blog. What's this world coming to? Anyway, I don't care (so far, anyway) who or what is leaving comments, at least someone (or something) is reading...
