I'm going to hate this hangover

It's after midnight in Seoul. Friday now. Over 121K unique visits, and my site counter for Thursday runs until Friday at 9 a.m. before resetting to 0 (the 24-hour period is always 9 a.m. to 9 a.m. for some reason, no matter my settings). When I go back to getting only 1000-2000 visits a day, that's going to hurt. And even though the current stats are utterly bogus and certainly the result of bots, the return to normal stats is going to feel like the loss of a high. An artificial high, to be sure, but who doesn't have an ego about their stats? Who doesn't want to believe that they're being read? So there's a mixture of feelings: a high and the sad awareness that all of this means nothing, as much as I'd like for it to mean something.

Tomorrow morning: another lesson with ChatGPT, then I'm going out to get bus tickets to and from Masan for when I leave on Saturday the 14th to visit my buddy Neil. And of course, before every Saturday the 14th comes a Friday the 13th. (Cue sinister music.)

  1. I guess even the bots don't want to visit my pathetic little blog. I got an Instapundit link once and had a couple thousand hits for one day, but none of them stuck around. These days, I'm consistently in the 200-250 daily visitors. That's okay.

I've often wondered why you don't get more comments here. You have a wide variety of material that should appeal to various readers' tastes. Then again, I comment here, I think, because we are connected, having met in person. I read Instapundit daily, but never join in the comment parade there.

Anyway, it's the quality, not the quantity, right?

    1. This didn't happen to me years ago, either. I think your site stats have to reach a certain saturation point before the bots notice you and start to swarm.
