more heart/cholesterol insights

  1. Just my opinion, reposting right wing memes all the time gets pretty tiresome. I get it - lefties bad/righties good. Not sure if you do this for your own satisfaction or are actually trying to target a specific group of people.

It's your sandbox, and definitely up to you what you do in the sandbox, but I am curious if those who come to your blog on a (semi) frequent basis feel the same way, regardless of their political persuasion. Hopefully others will chime in.

For me, I just scroll past that stuff. Your original stuff (hiking, life in Korea in general, etc) is why I come to your blog. Is it enough to make me subscribe? Hmm, probably not. But, it is not just you. I dont subscribe to any blogger/substack writer/podcaster, etc. I do go to some blogs that have ads, and I am okay with that. Don't know how lucrative it is for the blogger and how that would compare to going to a subscription service. Lot of variables come into play.

Anyway, just some random thoughts from a random internet person.

    1. You can't have it both ways: if you're skipping over the unpalatable stuff, then how can it be tiresome? You're not even looking at it. Besides, the memes arrive in a single batch once a day. Very easy to avoid. But even though you refused to answer my question the last time I asked you to lay your political views out on the line (granted, being forthright about one's views makes one vulnerable to criticism... not all of us are brave enough to do that), this comment does give me some ideas and confirms certain long-standing suspicions.

As for subscriptions... I'm still trying to flesh out how I can monetize content on Squarespace. I want a better understanding of the process before I jump in in July. I, too, am weary of the subscription model, but it's all over the place these days and seems to be the preferred coin for online content creators—be it via Patreon or whatever. I'm probably going to do a mix of one-time payments and subscriptions, plus there'll be free content for those who balk at paying for anything. From my point of view, though, I've been generating free content for years, and I think some of my five readers have come to take me for granted, expecting things to remain free. No longer! We'll see, I guess, who stays and who goes once I make the changeover.

  2. You do provide some very interesting, and some differing, insights into the changing world around us (focused mainly on certain aspects of South Korea and the United States) which anyone can take or leave. Your site is basically a "'zine" in that slim section in the electronic equivalent of an old brick and mortar style library. Not everyone will ever read the likes of "War and Peace," but many of us have perused "Highlights" and "The Adventures of Tintin."

Now, I am off to track down some of those"Tintin" books to gift to some younger readers. Well, right after I forward some of those images from your postings to my like-minded friends and kin.

    1. I just keep wondering why we're all having this conversation under this post and not a more relevant one.

  3. I inadvertently missed the "reply" link ( damn typing on my phone) to Brian's comment, and I felt it was relevant to his comment.

At least you have one reader who reads most of your posts, and your post above isn't even relevant to my health. However, I can refer it to friends and kin that it may be relevant to.
