interpreting stats

So it seems that fewer than two-thirds of my Substack subscribers bother to open my twice-weekly (or four-times-weekly for paid subscribers) newsletter up when it comes in the mail. I know; I get it: opening an email is dangerous and takes a lot of effort and calories. I've almost died a few times when I've tried looking at a particularly difficult-to-open email.

Anyway, that's a lot of unopened emails. I wonder what these people do—just let the unopened emails sink ever more deeply into their archives? Why bother subscribing? Just as a polite gesture? That's not very reassuring.

  1. If I recognize and trust the source, I open it. Your last newsletter gave me scurvy, though.
