An old way to say challenge was defy, as in, "I defy you to lick your own nipples." In French, they still have the noun le défi (the challenge) and the verb défier (to challenge). Something like the America's Cup or the Stanley Cup, where the prize can change hands, is called un challenge. Pronounce it the French way and be amused. Sha-law(n)zh.
