Amurrican breffus

For the September office meal, I went with American breakfast. I had wanted to do waffles and blueberry jam this morning, but I slept through my alarm and had only enough time to throw everything I'd made last night into a bag and hurry out the door to work.

The troops generally liked the food, although my American boss and coworker were both getting over colds, so their response wasn't as enthusiastic as usual. I also made pancakes (not pictured), but I almost didn't bring them because they were so fucking horrible. I brought them, anyway, telling my coworkers that they could try them if they were gluttons for punishment. My American coworker said they were a bit flat and thick, but he liked them, anyway. I'm pretty sure I used too much milk and not enough baking powder, which is why the pancakes didn't have that familiar rise on the griddle (yes: another chance to use my smokeless griddle).

Here's a pic of my plate, with maple syrup slathered on top:

homemade sausage, French-style ham, homemade scrambled eggs, bacon, and store-bought hash browns

also along for the ride: the classics of milk, orange juice, grape juice, an orange, and a banana

I'll call today a success, but barely. I wish I'd gotten up earlier to make those waffles. I had also wanted to make blueberry syrup to give the troops an IHOP option. Alas, none of that came to pass because I was a slob who barely made it to work on time. Maybe I'll make a "redemption batch" of pancakes for Monday.
