Thomas Jefferson on government

Whenever the people are well informed, they may be trusted with their own government.
—Thomas Jefferson

The corollary is: when the people are not well informed, they may not be trusted with their own government. This is foundational for understanding my attitude toward who deserves to vote. If you're "uninformed," you should be far, far from the levers of power.

Which is why Jefferson also believed that a free press was essential to keep the government honest and in check. These days, the fourth estate has become a tool of government deception and suppression.

Saw this from Glenn Greenwald at Althouse this morning:

The corporate media's ability to -- overnight -- turn anyone who dissents in anyway into some sort of fascist or even Hitler-like figure, and then have millions of their followers go around mindlessly repeating it, is both impressive and chilling: https://t.co/SIMYWnAHQw
