Trump's success, Buttigieg's failure

A leftie will look at the above and call Trump a cynical opportunist. There undoubtedly is a measure of cynical opportunism in what Trump did since he's officially declared his hat is in the ring for 2024. I'll go further: let's see Trump visit neighborhoods that (1) have been torn apart by Antifa violence, (2) have suffered under California's draconian over-regulation, and (3) have lived with the specter of gang violence for decades. But with all that being said, Trump went to East Palestine, Ohio, before any Biden-admin official did, and his visit was a gesture of care and concern that the current administration dragged its feet to make. (Buttigieg, who had said he'd visit "when the time was right" or something like that, miraculously appeared on site a day after Trump made his visit. Gee, fancy that! I take this to mean Buttigieg is a coward unwilling to visit a still-dangerous disaster site. He probably had to be prodded into visiting East Palestine.)

One bitter theory making the rounds is that the current administration doesn't want to help East Palestine because it's a haven for MAGA Republicans. If true, that means the Dems are willing to let their co-citizens suffer and potentially die just to prove an ideological point. But the disaster, being airborne, is going to affect more than just these MAGA parts of the country. Perhaps the Dems are too myopic to see that. More likely: they just don't care because they know they've got the toxic media to cover for them.
