I've seen that Japan meme quite a bit around the intertoobs over the past two weeks. I finally started to think about it and decided to research it some. Reuters has a good article about it basically saying that the whole meme is wrong and misleading. A little more poking confirmed the Reuters reporting. I think many read it very aspirationally.
