Vitaly news

The Korean strategy with nuisance streamer Johnny Somali is to keep him in the country while forbidding him from earning money (he's still finding ways to get funds, though). Korean jurisprudence, as I know from personal experience, takes a long time to unroll, so Johnny's going to be in country for a long, long time before he's finally taken in, tried, and sentenced. In the meantime, the logic is not to put him in jail, where the government would have to pay to feed and lodge him, but to force him to fend for himself on Korean streets. Meanwhile, since he loves recording himself, he will continue to build up a mountain of evidence against himself as he calls Koreans "cockroaches" and inferior to Japanese people, etc. (all of this is being recorded and duly noted, too). The Korean approach is a long-view, slow-burn approach. I don't know how effective this will be, in the end, when it comes to other nuisance streamers who come to Korea to wreak havoc (good discipline usually needs to be swift). Maybe if Ramsey (his real name—Ramsey Khalid Ismael) eventually gets 20 years, other streamers will take notice and stay away from Korea.

Meanwhile, in the Philippines, they've been dealing with a Russian-American nuisance streamer named Vitaly, but the Filipino approach has been much less patient: Vitaly also had been recording himself performing an assortment of mean pranks that included stealing a security guard's hat from off his head (Filipinos, like most decent people, will give you the benefit of the doubt at first, which is how Vitaly was able to get close enough to the guard to steal his hat), and he got caught and thrown in a crowded, sweaty, dingy Filipino prison, where he awaits trial—the speedy approach instead of the slow, deliberate, long-view approach. And it's looking as though he might go away for a long time. Like Johnny Somali, he'll suffer the local justice and not be deported. Vitaly has a friend and co-streamer who, I think, is fleeing or has fled the country. A true friend. From April 19:

  1. I wonder if he'll survive a Filipino jail. If you don't have friends or relatives supporting you with food and cash, you are in deep do-do...

    1. He looks like a big bruiser, so maybe he'll be okay.
