en France, la fureur du "Frexit"

As long as those in power can keep the people from getting what they want, nothing will come of these demonstrations, no matter how many thousands might participate in them. I'd love to see la vraie révolution, but I doubt I ever will. In the part of France where my French brother Dominique lives, everything is tranquil—just farms and crops and cows and peaceful neighborhoods, a quiet contrast to the hellish, unassimilated banlieue that encircles Paris and contains police no-go zones because of the level of violence. Some 30 km away from Dom's town of Le Vanneau-Irleau is the city of Niort, which is much more ethnically diverse—which can be good and bad.

It all leaves me torn. Part of me thinks the "experiment in multiculturalism" has proven to be a massive failure. Part of me thinks it merely needs to be rethought and re-executed because a mixing of cultures and ethnicities can enrich the national tapestry and provide new perspectives not available in a monoculture.

But how does one do that—rethink and re-execute? A few things should be clear: (1) You can't expect people with no desire to integrate into the culture they've moved into to coexist peaceably: there has to be a sharing of at least basic values, and the host/destination country needs to be proactive about teaching and promoting its own values—not just the basic ones—to all new arrivals (I speak of immigrants, not tourists, although tourists should be expected to obey the local laws or suffer the immediate and severe consequences of disobedience; cf. Johnny Somali and Vitaly, etc.). (2) It's now too late to "push everyone out." This is as true in the US as it is in Europe. Angela Merkel made the mistake of opening the floodgates (then Biden heedlessly left the fence open for four years), then all of western Europe's politicians began virtue-signaling about the need to welcome all of these young, military-aged, primarily Muslim men into their own countries. How's that working out for you, England? Ireland? Sweden? France? Germany? Meanwhile, eastern European countries like Hungary and Poland are less welcoming of this influx of foreigners unwilling to integrate. (3) Despite the reality of (2), the demographic pressure is going to result in a major crisis for the West. America might not be as close to the cliff's edge as Europe is, but we're going to tumble over the same cliff, and it's hard to see what to do about it.

Meanwhile, the politicians in the US and Europe will try their damnedest to keep getting away with the status quo. That said, one hope comes from the fact that, in America, the Democrat strategy of bringing in illegals to shore up Democrat voter rolls has begun to backfire. The Latino population, many of whom did come to the US legally, have begun to trend rightward and to speak out against illegal immigration because they can see, up close, the unfairness of a two-tiered system that simply hands government benefits to illegals who haven't earned them. This is a perverse notion of "compassion" because it's far from compassionate to the legal immigrants who have spent years working their asses off and making something of themselves while illegals are housed in posh hotels, where they loudly complain about the local food.

If I were god-emperor of America, I'd round up all of the adult illegals and make them work in either civil service or the military for at least five years as a path to citizenship. And since I'm in god-emperor mode, let's take the fantasy further: any judges or politicians who refused to carry out my wishes would also be rounded up, stripped of their status and duties, and put right into the military, where they would be trained and immediately put on the front lines. Are those the thoughts of an evil dictator? Hell, yes: I'm god-emperor in this scenario!

Meanwhile, I'll hope for a Frexit, but I don't realistically see one happening.
