clean that rug!

I keep hearing that these quasi-ASMR rug-cleaning videos are fake: new carpets dragged in mud, then cleaned purely for our entertainment. If that's so, then that's a hell of a lot of labor for this guy to go through simply to give the false impression that he's an actual rug cleaner. At the same time, all of the rugs he shows are suspiciously dirty to the same degree, with occasional variations like earthworms, insects, or some viscous liquid that won't come off with the first pass. So what's the reality? Well, from my perspective, I'm here to be entertained, so if this guy is willing to bust his ass purely for my entertainment, then more power to him.

Fakery and quackery are everywhere, of course. I've heard that most restoration videos and most "primitive building" videos are also faked. I watched a health video the other day that explained what HbA1c was (I've talked about it on this blog numerous times; feel free to search for those posts), then bizarrely concluded that the best course of action was to increase one's carb intake while cutting back on fats and proteins. Crazy talk. But you have to develop a sense of what's true and what's bogus. I admit I get hoodwinked a lot, but environments like YouTube and Google are often self-correcting systems... except when they demonstrate a strong leftie bias, as often happens with current events or left-leaning polices (re: COVID, the environment, etc.). So keep your thinking cap on. Know that you'll be hoodwinked more than once. Learn from the experience and try to gain some wisdom from it.
