The word effete means "exhausted; lacking in energy or vigor." It breaks down into the Latin roots ef (a variant of ex) and fet, at the root of the Latin for fetus. Notionally, the word evokes the idea of a woman who is exhausted after pushing out (ex) her baby (fet).
After writing that massive review, I now feel effete. So as is appropriate for a Sunday, today is a big ol' day of rest for me because I just gave birth to an enormous prose-child. I'll probably spend the day bingeing on "Battlestar Galactica." So if you've ever wanted to kill me, you know where I'll be: I'll be in my apartment, lazing around like a slob.
