has anyone else heard this legend?

This is brought to you by my trivia-hunting buddy Mike, who's got a talent for finding weird esoterica all over the place. Is this another popular trope or legend that has somehow escaped my attention all these years? Is this story commonly told to children? Are kids in Korea worried about ghosts that have sex with their nostrils?

ADDENDUM: Reddit has a hilarious message board about this.

In this case, I found it from following “Quite Interesting” (aka “QI”) on Twitter. QI is a show on on the BBC. It has real writers and researchers. Stephen Fry hosted it for many years, but now, it is hosted by a woman named Sandy Toksvig. Its format is like a quiz show with Sandy asking questions and the guests trying to answer them. They find real esoteric stuff to talk about, but I’ve never found them to make up anything.

You should look up QI on YouTube and watch some snippets. They are fun.
