I suppose you could admire constantly flirty guys for their can-do spirit, but (1) they don't make themselves look like reliably faithful partners, and (2) they're not nearly as appetizing as they think they are. As the Buddhists know, though: ego is great for self-delusion. Humility: the cure for Dunning-Kruger.

Okay, that was funny, and it brought back the memory from a long-ago visit to Philadelphia. I was living in South Carolina at the time, and I'd never been to Philly. Down south, folks are friendly by nature, at least you'll get a nod or smile when you pass someone on the street. I'd been in the city of brotherly love for a few days and had been totally ignored by the locals. One morning, I was having breakfast, and my waitress was incredibly sweet and caring. I told her, you are the first nice person I've met here. She looked at me and, in that thick Yankee accent, said, "Like I've got a choice, I work for tips." True story!
