well... happy March

With the arrival of March comes the arrival of spring.* My boss cautioned me, though, when I told him of my upcoming walk, that it can still snow in March. I replied that I hoped that snow wouldn't be a problem in mid-March when I would be down so far south (look up where Gunsan is; that's my final destination). In 1995, my buddy Mike came to visit me in Seoul; I recall the weather being cool but pleasant.

Last night, I slept for the first time without any floor heat whatsoever. As winter transitions into spring, there will be a month-long sweet spot during which I'll be paying very little for electricity—no floor heat (Koreans call it ondol) and no A/C until late April or early May, when the real heat will start up. Spring in Korea is generally very nice. I don't know whether I can avoid rains during this upcoming walk, but since the walk will be short, any rain I encounter shouldn't be a problem. At least in principle.

I've debated whether to even blog this walk. But if this is technically Kevin's Walk 10, my long walk for this year, then I suppose I need to create a blog. So blog creation may be on the agenda for today, along with proofreading my upcoming Substack posts and once again repopulating my scheduled blog posts, which currently go through March 8. After that, I'll be working on the movie-review book, adding a few quizzes to my ever-growing grammar course, and prepping for the walk. Here's hoping March is a good month.
