The great Chuck Yeager, the first man ever to break the sound barrier, has died at age 97. Somewhere in my public-storage unit in Virginia, I have an autographed copy of the autobiography Yeager, which I got signed by the man himself, years and years ago, at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. Yeager was immortalized in the 1983 movie "The Right Stuff" (based on Tom Wolfe's 1979 novel of the same name). It's been years since I read Yeager, and while I can't remember any of it off the top of my head, I recall the feeling of reading it. The man went through a lot, and he was a tough old bird. It stands to reason that the only thing that could kill Chuck Yeager would be old age.
RIP, General Yeager.
