Donald Trump makes history

Donald Trump is now the first US president in history to be impeached twice.  The Democrat effort to impeach Trump a second time is as doomed to fail as it was the first time, but I think this is more about marking something onto Trump's permanent record than anything else.  Surely the Dems know that their efforts will be defeated; to convict Trump, there must be a two-thirds vote in the Senate to punish the man.  There's almost zero chance of that happening.  The Dems will come away from a second failed attempt claiming it to be a success:  "at least our voices were heard."  The GOP, meanwhile, will view this as yet another in a long line of useless, flailing gestures that waste the taxpayers' money and time.

And here's the thing:  let's say the Dems do manage to secure a two-thirds vote to take Trump down.  What do you think will happen next when authorities try to drag Trump to jail?  I can almost guarantee you'll see armed violence:  the cultural civil war will finally have turned from cold to hot, and the mop-up of the left-liberals will have begun.  In such an event, I worry for my few friends on the left.  However misguided they may be, I have no desire to see them strung up like traitors or gunned down, even if some of them are indeed anti-American to the core.  As for the rest of the violent, angry left:  I have no sympathy for those folks.  They will simply have to reap what they've sown, and if history really is written by the victors, then while their voices might have been heard at Trump's impeachment, that's the last time their voices will ever be heard.  The victors will give them no say.
