staircase yesterday

I very roughly timed myself going up my building's staircase yesterday, and I was surprised to see that it took me less than 10 minutes to climb the staircase the first time. Normally, it takes me about 10.5 minutes. Maybe it's just that the weather is getting colder, especially in the evening, but I did my two ascents up the stairway fairly energetically.

Next week, I graduate to 2.5 staircases, which I'm really not looking forward to, and the week of my December 16 appointment, I finally ratchet up to 3 full staircases (78 floors). Doing two staircases is the rough equivalent of walking the stairs to the top of Namsan from the Namsan Public Library (a bit over 1,000 steps in each case), the difference being that, on Namsan, you walk straight up, whereas in my building, I have to take an elevator down to B1 every time I reach the 26th floor, so I do get a bit of a breather.

Earlier, I had said I'd revert to doing 1.5 staircases next year, but I might actually back down to 1.5 right after my doctor's appointment. Going up the staircase three times is a tedious pain in the ass, and as I discovered during my recent walk, doing 1.5 staircases routinely is enough to get my heart pumping and building muscle, and to get me fit enough to attack hills when I'm distance-walking. I'm also going to continue with jump rope, so I'll be getting an excellent cardiovascular workout that way. (I'm videoing my jump-rope sessions, then I'll create a compilation video of my progress after I buy some editing software. Stay tuned: that compilation will appear sometime in the spring next year.
