Sunday numbers

Get a load of these stats:

Weight: 105 kg
BP: 147/84
Pulse: 75
Blood Sugar: 91

Long story short: my numbers aren't great, but they're trending in the right direction, which means I'm sticking with the carnivore diet. I might try throwing in two 24-hour-fasting days for good measure this week to see how those affect weight loss, but it's nice to see I went from 108 kg to 105 kg in a week eating nothing but meat (with some cheese and a couple handfuls of nuts thrown in). Some of the experts I've watched on YouTube say that carbohydrates are the one macronutrient we can do completely without (because the body can burn fat), and this past week was easily the lowest-carb week of my life. I didn't consciously track calories at all, but I remained very aware of my macros, and that seems to have been the key.

My BP had been trending upward during the weeks and months since I'd stopped Newcastle, so this morning's numbers were a nice change from the usual 160-ish over 90-ish. I still need to continue with the strenuous cardio so I can get my resting heart rate down to the high 60s, but I've got a whole month to do that before I see the doctors. Blood sugar looks as if it'll take care of itself; 91 isn't bad, even for non-diabetics, and I'll fast for two days before I visit the hospital on December 16, so that number will be even lower on appointment day. Ditto for weight loss: eating meat without any upper limit on calories, and at any time of day, seems to be working for me. My body does seem to thrive under severe strictures; luckily, the carnivore diet doesn't feel too severe (hey: I ate a whole Costco bag of scallops, which I cooked perfectly, Thursday night), although there's always the risk it'll get boring. I do miss veggies.

All in all, I'm satisfied with these results, especially when compared with last week's. Tune in for next week's results.

  1. Kevin, it looks like you're on the right track; but be sure to check in with your doctor periodically.

  2. I have to report to the doctors at the hospital every 100 days. I can skip out, I suppose, but if I do that, I get no meds. (Maybe that's a good thing?)

  3. Good news! Glad the new meat-eating diet seems to be working for you.

I'm wondering if the two-day fast prior to the doctor's appointment is a good plan. Sure, it is likely to reduce the blood sugar count, but will that be an accurate reflection of your normal blood sugar? I'd want the doctor to assess my condition without an artificial boost. YMMV.

    Keep on keepin' on!

  4. John,

I have to fast one day before I go to my appointment, anyway, so I see little harm in adding an extra day to that.

  5. Ah, okay. That makes sense. Hadn't thought of the mandatory fast prior to the appointment.
