I'm back from the longest walk I've done in a while. I drove out this morning to the Dahlgren Railroad Heritage trail and parked at Mile 8, which is dead center in the 16-mile trail. I walked from Mile 8 to the very end at Mile 16, then walked back, so 16 miles in total (about 26 km), in what was almost a straight line, mostly flanked by tall woods. This is the same distance I walk from my apartment in Seoul to the Starfield department store in Hanam. The trail parallels the Potomac River but is inland. You never see the river, but there's a good bit of marshland along the way. I plan to send pics of the local marshes to my French "brother" Dominique because he lives in le marais poitevin (poitevin is the adjectival form of both Poitu and Poitiers, so something of or from those places is poitevin), a marshy region near the town of Le Vanneau-Irleau, where Dom manages a bed-and-breakfast. The weather today was sunny, but also cool, brisk, and windy; it felt more like March than April, so it's a good thing I'd brought my jacket and doubled up my shirt.
I've got a ton of boring photos to unload, so prepare yourself for that. Or run away.
Impressive! Good to see you putting in the miles again. One of our female Hashers did a 30K trek before doing Monday's Hash. That killer trail wiped her out, but damn, I can only dream of having that level of endurance.
ReplyDelete30K over mountainous terrain would be impossible for me. Maybe 10K if the terrain isn't too rough.
