Denis Villeneuve's Dune movies have been rightly lauded for taking the original material fairly seriously, but at the same time, the director and screenwriters have taken some massive liberties with the characters, the world-building, and the overall story. One aspect of the early books that's been left out is the Spacing Guild, from which we get the barely-human Guild Navigators, who use the spice produced solely on Arrakis to see into the eddies and currents of spacetime in order to navigate deep space. There's been little to no mention of the Guild in the new movies thus far. Nerd Cookies meditates on this.
