they warned you

I understand that those of us online do, to some extent, curate ourselves, presenting our audiences with an appearance that isn't totally true to life. I might talk about my pooping habits, for instance, but I'm never going to show you a picture of my bleached butthole. Some things need to be kept away from the public. And in making decisions like these every day, I am indeed curating my image online. Anyone who does anything in public is always, to some extent, projecting and manipulating. For most of us normal folks, this comes from a simple need for privacy. For others, though, the curation grows and metastasizes until it's active deception. And this is why you have to keep your skeptic hat on: scams and chicanery abound.
