pup 2: the sequel

My first trip back to the pet store, this afternoon, resulted in bad photos because the sunlight caused too many reflections on the glass: I wasn't able to get a clear shot of the puppy. So I resolved to walk back to the store in the evening, and this time around I actually went inside. The pet store, which specializes in both dogs and cats, is kept cozily warm for the animals' sake. As I lumbered into the shop, many of the older dogs went nuts, yapping and pawing the glass, trying desperately to get my attention. But I had eyes only for this little guy:

I felt a pang, knowing that this tiny, fragile dachshund would never be mine, especially not when he costs W400,000 ("How much is that doggie in the window," indeed!). I took plenty of photos of him, though, including one in which he put his paw back up against the glass, just like the other day. Quite an extrovert, this one.

Addofio here.

You know the saying "you can't buy love"? Yes you can, as any cat or dog lover knows. In fact--it's never free. Even without initial costs, there's vet bills and flea/tick/heartworm treatment and of course food. Wish you could have him. He'd complicate your life, but add a lot too. And you''d have a walking companion.

Whenever I see a puppy like that it reminds me of the story that you told me of your buddy Tom (If I can remember correctly) who always used to call small dogs "일 인분"

@John: Those little guys have more meat on them than you might suspect.

I always tell myself when I see an adorable one like this (all alone, it's breaking my heart!) that he is so cute he will get a good home soon. But in the back of my mind a nagging worry.

Sometimes being an animal lover is a bitch-kitty.

Adoptable critters in South Korea have it really tough with many apartment dwellers ignorant of the facts that make up living with a pet that has its own unique set of needs.

Hopefully, that 400,000 won pup won't end up like so many others that make up the ever-increasing number of pets being sheltered in pounds across the peninsula. At the Daejeon city animal shelter you will find countless birds, cats, dogs, ferrets, Guinea pigs, hamsters, hedgehogs, rabbits, and even the occasional fish. And while most of the shelters are well run, many of the animal mills that provide these pets are not.
