don't do it, Larry!

Larry Elder Will ‘Likely’ Announce 2024 Presidential Bid ‘Soon,’ Close Friend Says

Conservative talk-show host and former Republican California gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder will “likely” announce a run for president in 2024 “soon,” a close friend of Elder’s told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Elder, host of “The Larry Elder Show,” who previously indicated he would launch a run for the GOP nomination by the end of March or early April, can be expected to announce a campaign by the end of the month, Tom Tradup, a close friend of Elder and vice president of SALEM Radio Network, told the DCNF in an interview. Elder launched into the national spotlight when he ran as a Republican for California’s 2021 general election recall to remove Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom from office.

The conservative host will likely run on restoring traditional values in America, and will capitalize on his often used slogan, “we’ve got a country to save,” according to Tradup.

I was all for Larry Elder's run for governor in California even though I knew his campaign was doomed from the start. Californians live in an alternate universe where Elder, a black man, is called a "white supremacist" (just as happened to Candace Owens, also black) for espousing the values he does. Running on a Republican ticket is endlessly surprising to me because, from what I'd heard years ago, Elder has always been more of a libertarian. Maybe running as a GOP member was/is a pragmatic decision.

Pragmatic or not, I don't think Elder should stand in the way of a 2024 Trump run. Getting in the ring with Trump means being critical of Trump, and now isn't the time for that, not when the MAGA crowd needs unity, not division. Save it for 2028, Larry. Please. Elder is smart, witty, media-savvy, and far better than Bill Clinton at recalling facts and figures. What's more, it's rare for me ever to hear him say something I disagree with. In any other circumstance, I'd gladly cast my vote for him (as I would for Candace Owens or, even better, Allen West). I just don't think that now is the right moment.
