the Dems try to figure things out

It's not looking good, what with the Republican National Convention helping to solidify Republicans while the Democrats are still wrestling with the question of whether to keep or ditch Joe Biden as their nominee. There are a lot of uncertainties on the Dem side, ranging from whether it's even possible to ditch Joe to what the ramifications of replacing Joe would be. Joe has COVID at the moment (again), and people are holding their breath, wondering whether he'll get a clue and step aside, thereby damning himself to a one-term presidency while Trump goes on to pull a Grover Cleveland (two nonconsecutive terms).
