I didn't time myself tonight, but I did my 2K walk as promised, with David accompanying me before going back to remote-working. It felt a lot easier than the last walk, but I can also tell that I'm not quite ready to tackle 5 kilometers. At this rate, though, 5K will happen soon, and I'm betting I'll be ready to walk long distances, with encumbrance, by early October.
But will I be able to handle hills? Hills aren't recommended for heart patients. but at the same time, a couple of months will have passed, and I'll have been practicing both with my building's staircase and on local trails. The walk to Hanam City, 26K, features one challenging hill and a couple small rises. The segment from Yangpyeong to Yeoju, 33K, has a nasty hill early on (that's the place where I fell almost exactly a year ago, you'll recall) before turning largely flat. Beautiful walk—one of my favorite segments. Hills don't define the Four Rivers path, but there are some hills that you can't ignore, especially along the Nakdong River.
Anyway, this walk left me feeling positive and even optimistic. Maybe the return of some measure of vigor is possible.
That's encouraging news. Hills are always going to be a bitch, but you'll get there in time. Don't try to do too much, too soon.
