The original Charlemagne (break it down: Charles-le-Magne = "Charles the Great") spelled his name with an "e" after the "l." Online personality Charlamagne tha God did the deliberate-misspelling thing that many black folks do to distinguish themselves from the mainstream. The misspelling is designed to be noticed. I might not like it because "la Magne" sounds feminine to me, but Charlamagne can write his name however he wants.
