Out to the Han River and back. 'Twas a good walk, but the top left of my right foot started getting irritated in my shoe, which is never a good sign. You don't want an irritation to rub raw, then get bloody. That's what happened last year. I didn't bother to time myself this time, but I was going at roughly the same speed as previously. As for the irritation... when in doubt, tape it out! Okay, that doesn't make sense. Tape it over, anyway.

You're definitely an in for a penny, in for a pound kind of guy. I did a half along the Nakdong and there are some truly beautiful stretches. Good choice. But....on an unnecessarily morbid note, do you have a a communication system in place to notify concerned acquaintances should non-lethal issues start to arise whilst you are far away and somewhat isolated...?
ReplyDeleteI fear this may be another of those transatlantic misunderstandings, but you did "a half" of what? Half the Nakdong River trail, i.e., 192.5 km? If so, I tip my hat to you.
DeleteYeah, it's a lovely trail. I've done it twice before, and I'm hoping that the third time will be a charm.
As for an emergency system in place... I've got the "119" button on my phone and little else. I have a slip of paper in my wallet labeled "비상시" with a list of people to contact in case I'm hospitalized, or if I die. And that's about it.
Yeah, half marathon...
ReplyDeleteWell, a hat tip for that, too. Some of the meanest hills along the Four Rivers trail can be found along the Nakdong River portion. I'm glad I've never had to bike them.
DeleteTotally flat riverside section near the spa town of 부걱 (부곡?). An unforested stretch of mountains are set back from the river giving it a slightly awesome craggy rock aspect, if memory serves. Helped take focus off the 2 hour slog...
ReplyDeleteSo you didn't do this hill from this post (scroll way down the post to see my hill photos) or this hill from this post? Lucky you. There's a nightmarishly bad hill by Mushim-sa, bad even for walkers, that I haven't done since 2017. But generally, what makes these hills memorable is their overall rarity.
