Happy Fourth!

Lest my foreign readers get the wrong idea: the image isn't a celebration of gun ownership. (I've never owned or fired a gun, unless you count BB guns.) The focus is on freedom as a universal value: even right-thinking aliens cherish it and are willing to defend it!

(This also marks the seventh blogiversary for BigHominid's Hairy Chasms! Slay the fatted calf! And the fatted thigh!)

However, freedom requires the ability to defend itself. Hence I take the position that the two fundamental freedoms that keep us free are trial by jury, which acts as a check on unrestrained police power, and the right to bear arms, which is the check on unrestrained political power.

Remember, Hitler first disarmed the country before persecuting the Jews, and creating the SS.

Joking aside, Hahna, do you have a blog? If so, I'd be more than happy to blogroll it. Thanks, as always, for your readership.

And thanks to you as well, Bill.
