throwing in the towel

Well, it's official: I'm giving up on all cooking projects today. I'm simply too exhausted and achy from yesterday's adventure. I would have had to travel to SSG Food Mart and Costco to acquire a bunch of necessary ingredients, but I simply couldn't muster the energy to do any of that. Even contemplating going downstairs in my own building to acquire some supplies makes me tired. Today seems to have become a "vegetate inside my studio" day, so there we are. I'd say the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak, but the spirit isn't even willing.

Part of the reason for this is doubtless the change in the weather. Yesterday was gorgeous: sunny and warm, but that very warmth can slowly sap your drive to soldier on after enough time under the sun (there was a moment, when I reached a large, well-appointed rest area 3K before the end, when I thought about quitting right there). My favorite type of day is bright, cold, clear, and a bit windy. Very energizing. I'm thinking with dread about my fall hike this year because Chuseok (Korean harvest festival) is happening very early in 2022: September 10. September, in Korea, is essentially the last month of summer. Temperatures do start to go down in September, but mostly toward the very end of the month, i.e., during its final week. September is, otherwise, a fairly hot month—not quite as bad as August, but still not ideal for distance walking. Maybe I'm just a whiny pussy when it comes to heat.

So I'll spend today and tonight tinkering on my blog entry for yesterday's walk. The post might appear tonight (Seoul time) or sometime tomorrow. With nearly 700 photos to resize and caption, and with narrative text to write, the post is going to take some time. Why, oh why, did I go nuts and take so many photos? I guess yesterday really was a beautiful day.

More soon. Or later.
