I may have some of these signs of incipient dementia. McCrarey claims to be worried about his own dissolving mind; he might want to look at this video, too.

I have the video queued up and ready to watch later this morning (it's 4:30 a.m. as I write this). I'll let you know what I think after I see it. Unless I forget.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's 1:20 p.m., beyond "later this morning," so I guess you forgot.
DeleteHaHa! No, I didn't forget to watch it. I just didn't make it back here to the Chasms to provide an update.
DeleteSo, I've not experienced many of those physical symptoms. The smelling, vision, and hearing issues exist for me, but I don't think that's driven by dementia. That said, the ever-worsening mental failings are concerning. I forget names almost as soon as I learn them. I encounter people on my hikes who call out to me by name, and I have no recollection of ever meeting them. If a thought occurs to me, I've learned to write it down because five minutes later, I'll be asking myself, "What was I just thinking?" Sometimes, when I'm writing on the blog, the word I'm thinking is not the one my fingers type. It's scary shit and getting worse.
I know there is no cure for this, and Dr. Ekberg didn't seem to offer more than a "think positive" approach. Well, there is nothing to be done then but to keep plugging away as best I can. I guess the good news is that I'll reach the point where I'm stupid—without knowing I'm stupid—so I will no longer feel stupid.
Count your blessings.
