so should I get rid of WhatsApp?

I suspect that my privacy has been fucked since I was a kid. I remember hearing my dad talk, way back when I was in elementary school in the 70s, about how the goverment "has all of your records." This problem is nothing new, but it is getting more insidious.

  1. Signal is the app to use for privacy.

    1. So what do you think? Do we switch? And what's the guarantee that Signal isn't compromised?

  2. There are no guarantees that the information is not compromised. As you allude, it is probably safer to assume that all digital transmissions are to some extent compromised. Some acquaintances I know who work in Defense and Intelligence areas of Fed Gov't all use Signal. If nothing else, it is run by a not-for-profit entity that doesn't advertise. So they don't sell your info or track you.

    1. Okay. Well, I've just downloaded the Signal app and have registered myself on it. Same procedure as WhatsApp: you have to give it your phone number (which, to me, isn't a great sign).

    2. I have done so as well and tried to send a test message to you from my account.
