There are still some kinks to work out, but my little book Think Like a Teacher will soon be available as a POD paperback. POD is print on demand, which means Amazon will print out a copy of my book only when a copy is ordered. Unfortunately, to get a $2 profit on the book, I had to set its list price at $6.95, which doesn't seem reasonable for a guide that's under 90 pages in length. I guess we'll see who buys the book under those circumstances.
I'll spare you the details of the time I went through, last night, cleaning up and straightening out the manuscript to get it ready for print. Enough to say it was a chore. So was making the book's cover, which Amazon requires to be made into a single graphic (front cover, spine, and back cover all fused into a single rectangle, with me guessing at how thick the spine would have to be). I found myself having flashbacks to 2006, when I self-published Water from a Skull via CafePress (among next year's book projects: getting Water from a Skull onto Amazon). I'd forgotten about all the rigamarole I'd had to go through back then, but it all came flooding back to me last night.
I'm waiting, right now, for Amazon to manually review my POD book and give it a thumbs-up. Once the book is approved and goes on sale, I'll buy a copy for myself, look it over, and see what remains to be tweaked. I'm probably going to have to alter the cover graphics if things are off-kilter. Anyway, once all of that is finalized, I'll put up an announcement about the POD book, so stayed tuned for more news.
