aftermath fantasy

What if, once a war is over, and Country A is victorious over Country B, Country A agrees simply to pull out of Country B, but only after burying a gigantic nuclear bomb right under its capital as a way to hold the country hostage? The bomb would have safeguards to prevent Country B from defusing it, and only Country A would ever be allowed to detonate it.

I fantasize that it'd be nice for us to do that to China after we kick its ass. It'd be like a nuclear sword of Damocles, with China always wondering whether the bomb might go off by accident.

I'm not so sure we can kick China's ass. Not alone anyway. As you've noted elsewhere, taking Taiwan would come at a high price for China--both in blood and treasure. I do fear things are going to get ugly because Xi is going to have to learn the hard way. Just like his buddy Putin.

I feel like you have cribbed this from your notes on The Dark Knight Rises....

Charles,

Yeah, I can see how one might say that. I guess the major difference is that, in "The Dark Knight Rises," the bomb could either be triggered manually at any time or reach the end of its several-month-long timer. Although I suppose the bomb could also have gone off randomly on its own.
