Ave, Dr. Pepple!

Dr. Pepple views a "time to finally let go of our fear" remark with incredulity. As he says:

What fear? Fear has not been my near-constant companion over the past two years. After a couple months of fear that maybe my particular county was going to suffer exponential growth of cases and deaths, it finally became apparent that that wasn’t going to happen, and at that point I stopped being afraid and started getting annoyed. Annoyance has been my near-constant companion over the past two years as I watched incredulously as intelligent people completely failed to understand the statistics, to take a look at what studies were not being reported in the ruling-class media, to get angry at the censorship of views and not just hate speech on social media, to condemn the elites who shamelessly insisted that epidemiologists from Harvard, Oxford, and Stanford were merely “fringe” epidemiologists—well, the list goes on and on.

I share Dr. Pepple's annoyance. I have fearful friends who I wish would fucking snap out of it. Meanwhile, my buddy JW, though he sometimes wears a mask on our walks and sometimes doesn't, has been my most constant companion throughout this entire nonsense. I don't know whether JW and I are completely on the same page, but for the most part, I think JW shares my sense that we wear masks mainly to be able to go places (like restaurants, shops, taxis, buses, subways, etc.), not because we think the masks offer a magical protection they don't. I resolutely never wear a mask while distance walking, and that will remain my policy until this bullshit is finally declared over. I sense that a lot of people are waiting for an official declaration of the End of the Pandemic, not because the declaration will mean the restoration of their freedoms, but because it will somehow represent, in their minds, the official banishment of the virus. What utter nonsense. And most of these fearful folks are on the left—the same side that constantly blames the right for its supposed fearmongering.

My disgust knows no bounds.

One of Yoon's promises regarding what he is going to do when he enters office was about doing away with wearing masks outside. We both already know that this is BS anyway, but I think he was talking about an active stance on the matter. If he goes through with that, he will immediately become my favorite president.

Here's hoping.

I'm at the point where when I see people outside wearing masks I consider them as indoctrinated little sheeple who are too stupid to think for themselves. I feel both pity and disgust at their ignorance.

That said, I still carry a mask in my pocket when I hike but only put it on at checkpoints or when I see a cop. Still have to wear a mask inside the grocery store, but most other small businesses don't enforce the requirement.

I'll be so glad when this madness is over.
