Both the Yangjae Creek and the Tan Creek got flooded again, thanks to Seoul's brief brush with Typhoon Hinnamnor. It's annoying how often this happens every year; you'd think someone would have done something about it by now, given that this is a several-times-yearly occurrence, but no. Just rope off the flooded spots and wait. It amused me to think that the crews who maintain these trails had only just gotten rid of the muddy silt from the last flood, and now, here we are again. Anyway, tonight's walk once again took me along elevated paths until I crossed the Samseong Bridge and hit the Tan Creek on its far side, which sits higher than the near side. The far-side walk was perfectly normal, although I crossed back to "my" side of the creek using a bridge I'd never crossed before.
I hope the water will have gone down by the time I do my walk Wednesday night (technically tonight as I'm writing this at nearly 4:30 a.m. Wednesday morning). Meanwhile, here are some pics from the Tuesday-night walk for your delectation.

Once again, the stairs lead down to a swollen Yangjae Creek. |
There's a path buried down there somewhere. |
The flooding wasn't as high this time. Here's a ramp down to the water. |
Sorry for the blur, but this spider was busy weaving her web. Camera couldn't focus. |
This is the Tan Creek now. Note the foliage visible in the water to the left, i.e., things aren't as flooded this time. |
Same deal here: foliage peeks out of the water, which is lower this time. |
My side of the creek, the far side, and Jamshil/Lotte World Tower in the distance. See that bright star off to the right? That, friends, is Jupiter. |
In the previous flood, the water was so high that pylon letters weren't visible. |
a look back |
more stairs terminating in water |
As I crossed the Samseong Bridge, I took this shot of the driver's-test course, which isn't as flooded this time. |
Ha! You think your puny tape can stop me? Plenty of Koreans were on this path as well, all of us ignoring the rules. |
Remember this house from last time? Not so flooded this time. |
Poor fucker was still alive. I'm guessing someone walked on him/her. |
I almost killed the mantis above just to put it out of its misery, but I walked away instead.
I pass this huge sign all the time, but this may be my first time photographing it. "Songpa Loop Trail—21 km," it says. I did part of that route once. It sucked. |
The cosmos flowers are out. |
nighttime bloom |

This is the ramp I took to the bridge I'd never walked across before. I think this was the Tancheon 1 Bridge. |
While on the ramp up to the bridge, I took this shot of the trail usually taken, but not taken this night. |
crossing the Tancheon 1 Bridge |
a nifty shot of the Tan Creek (Tan-cheon, Tancheon), Samseong-dong and the World Trade Tower in the distance |
on the bridge still, looking toward Jamshil/Lotte World Tower |
This shows the bridge's various specs, but not its name. I think that plaque is across the street. |
138 minutes in total according to my pedometer. I wasn't walking very fast... let's say about 4.5 kph maximum, so maybe a little over 10K walked. Barely a stroll in the grander scheme.
Hard to believe that Chuseok weekend is coming up. This means we've got this coming Friday and Monday off. I'm tempted to do a huge walk during the day, but it's still too hot in the daytime, so a night walk somewhere might happen—say, between Yangpyeong and Yeoju (30K). There's a nasty hill about an hour or so into that walk, but after that, it's smooth sailing. As you can tell, I haven't really figured out what I'll be doing this weekend. At some point, I need to use up the rest of the apples and pears gifted to me by my company, so I may make another apple/pineapple pie.
And on that hungry note, I bid you adieu.
