has winter finally arrived?

Low-temperature and snow warnings have been appearing on my phone. I've been inside all day today and haven't bothered to look out my window (the view sucks, in my studio apartment, ever since I moved from an eastward-facing studio with an expansive view to my current westward-facing studio with a prosaic view down a local street—nothing but buildings), but we've suddenly gone from preternaturally warm weather to -5ºC?? (That's 23ºF, nicely below freezing.) I mean, what the hell? The latest messages on my phone warn of heavy snow, ice, and the danger of slippage. That tosses some of my walking plans out the window, and while I'm fine using my ice cleats to walk short distances, they'd become a pain if I tried to use them for distance walking. Nuts. I'm going to have to rethink my exercise plan for the coming weeks. It would have involved a lot of distance walking, but now, I might just switch to staircase training. Joy. Here's a snapshot of the National Weather Service's forecast for my area through 6 p.m. tomorrow:

Notice how the temps are all below freezing for the rest of today and all day tomorrow.

  1. It was snowing earlier this morning. I went out briefly in the afternoon and it was ball-shatteringly cold, mainly due to the high winds. Tomorrow should be even more fun.
