Liz Magill, U. Penn president, close to stepping down after genocide comments

We've seen for a while, now, that the so-called "elite" universities are run by spineless administrations that cravenly bow to the will of unhinged leftist students and blow with the winds of political correctness—all while blissfully assuming their big-name donors will keep shoveling millions in their direction. In recent months, with the war in Gaza now raging, some of these "elite" campuses have become hotbeds of antisemitism. Three university presidents—from Harvard, U. Penn, and MIT—have come under fire for testifying before Congress that antisemitic rhetoric "constitutes bullying or harassment" only "depending on context." Harvard president Claudine Gay said this, and so did U. Penn president Liz Magill. Magill seems to be close to stepping down after video of her congressional testimony came out. Some of that is shown below:

According to this article, MIT president Sally Kornbluth was perfectly fine with racially segregated, black-only dorms:

Kornbluth’s [mic-drop] moment came in an exchange with Utah Rep. Burgess Owens, a former NFL star with a Superbowl XV ring to prove it. He asked Kornbluth about the segregation of dorms and other places on campus.

“You have blacks-only dorms. Is it ok for whites to set up whites-only dorms where minorities are excluded?” asked Owens.

“It’s not exclusionary; it’s actually positive selection by students,” said Kornbluth, almost cheerily.

“We’re talking about segregation,” shot back Owens, a courtly and dignified black man who was born in 1951 and who, therefore, must have seen his share of racism, “It’s happening on your campuses!”

“There is a distinction between sending an exclusionary message and looking to other students for common experiences and support,” said Kornbluth, who may be highly accredited but apparently ignores that this is precisely how racists who supported Jim Crow would have defended segregation.

Can you understand why I, despite being fairly academic-minded myself, increasingly despise academe? The moral rot is everywhere now. One of the best life-choices I ever made was not to pursue a doctorate. Such a degree is meaningless these days.

If these women had any honor after they all failed to show any backbone during their congressional testimonies, they'd all step down. But the Sith maxim is that All who gain power are afraid to lose it, so even if people are saying Magill is on the verge of stepping down, I'll believe it only when I see it. If she does step down, Gay and Kornbluth had better follow suit.

UPDATE: when I woke up this morning, I saw: Magill officially resigns, "effective immediately" according to some, but there is talk that she'll remain in office a few more months until a replacement is found. So this isn't over until it's over.

UPDATE 2 (via Instapundit, and regarding MIT):

  1. It has been nice to see the bipartisan pushback on these antisemites and racists. Are the American people finally ready to stand up and say enough of this nonsense? I hope so, but I'm also not holding my breath.
