New Year's Resolutions

I blow hot and cold when it comes to resolutions for the new year: they're always the same resolutions, and I always fail at them. But hope springs eternal, so...

• lose weight
• improve strength and flexibility
• make progress on the book project I've procrastinated on
• have a foot-problem-free long hike

Generic, to the point, and pretty much the same as always. How about you?

  1. None for me, thanks. I have some goals in mind but won't formalize them as resolutions. What will be, will be.

  2. @JohnMac seems to imply your resolutions are formalized but I only ever see that shit as setting out to achieve specific numbers (or the dread "go to the gym every day" - an aspiration with immediate failure cooked into it). Obviously there's numbers involved somewhere since "lose weight" can be defined as 1 less of any measurement volume than you are now. But that is over a whole year, so arguably you could go full Brendan Freeman in The Whale for 6 months then scale back to that 1 less than you are now. In short, your goals have built-in protectionisms and are fulsomely realizable save that world war everyone seems to be willing on. My own are probably -if I ever get to writing them down with a pen and pencil- loosely survivalist in theme, also. I wish you well in your resolutions. Oh, and it is a fine year to have been born in the year of the rat they say, certainly in the financial fold. Here's hoping. Happy New Year!
