well, I guess I'm bingeing*

The first three episodes of Season 2 of "Reacher" just dropped, so I guess I know what I'll be doing tonight. Damn. I was hoping to get some shit done, too. Season 2 is based on Lee Child's novel Bad Luck and Trouble. I wonder how faithful the TV adaptation will be. Season 1 was, overall, pretty faithful to The Killing Floor, but it did include some characters (like Neagley, pronounced "Neely," a character who appears in later novels) and events ("I can end your life with one phone") that aren't in the novel. So long as the changes don't interrupt or fundamentally change the main story, and so long as Reacher remains the big, burly juggernaut of a man he's supposed to be—not undercut by other characters—then I'll be fine with Season 2. I hope. (NB: the Season 2 preview keeps showing a scene in which Reacher overpowers a carjacker who is tormenting a mother and her child. That's not in the novel at all, but it plays to Reacher's Kwai Chang Caine-like nature as a wandering do-gooder.)

Read my Season 1 review here. I won't review Season 2 until I'm done with it.

*My preferred spelling is bingeing, with an "e." I hate binging which, to my mind, sounds like ringing or pinging or springing. Same goes for whingeing. That's why don't like that the Dursleys from the Harry Potter books live in Little Whinging, Surrey. It should be Little Whingeing, dammit. I know whinging and binging are legitimate spellings, but they shouldn't be. I should write a rant, someday, about words that are right but look and sound wrong, like kerfluffle and kibosh when it's pronounced to rhyme with "Hi, Josh!" (Ideally, kibosh should rhyme with "the wash," but I see that Etymonline.com offers what might be considered a good argument for the "Hi, Josh!" pronunciation.)
