Speculation here is that the stricter application of the tourist visa approval process is related to hordes of Chinese abusing the system. I just hope I'm not caught in the fallout. I don't know of any other country that allows you to extend a "tourist" visa for up to three years before being required to leave the country. It's been working for me, though. We'll see if Immigration tells me to get the fuck out when I visit this Tuesday.
