Are you enjoying your first day of October? This is normally my favorite month in the States and in Korea. And from what I dimly recall, October was beautiful in Switzerland as well.
My numbers today—first measurement since Monday's disaster of a doctor's visit:
BP: 115/78 (I'd call that good)
fasting blood sugar (BS): a whopping 217 (down in a day or two)
approx. A1c: unofficially 6.87, officially 7.2
pulse-ox: 98
heart rate (HR): 69
weight: 112 kg
If I'm at a fasting-glucose level of 217 today, I must've been around 300-something last night after all that cake (yes, the remaining two pieces are gone, along with the ice cream, God help me). And lunch at the Korean place wasn't carb-free by any means, either: there was a small, Western-style salad with a typically carby dressing; there was a gunky and goopy (but oh-so-tasty) "salada" that seemed like a mix of sweet squash and sweet potato, and of course, there was all the rice (gonggi-bap/공기밥).
Well, it's back to fasting today, even though Wednesday is normally my eating day. I think I'm going to start my biggish walk on Friday once I'm nicely fasted (I'll also be doing a 9K walk this evening). Friday is the holiday of Gaecheonjeol (Open-Heaven-Day), a.k.a. National Foundation Day, based upon a myth of how the nation was founded. Then from Sunday to Wednesday, we've got Chuseok/추석, informally known as "Korean Thanksgiving," but akin to a harvest festival, and one of the two huge family times in the Korean calendar, the other being the Korean lunar new year (설날/Seollal). Next Thursday is 한글날/Hangeullal, or Hangeul Day, the day the country celebrates King Sejong's invention of the Korean alphabet, which I pay respect to every time I pass the Yeoju Dam, where a huge inscription of some early Korean text is written (see this post, for example, and scroll way down, or just click on this photo). With so many vacation days ahead of (then nothing until Christmas, i.e., I have to celebrate American Thanksgiving on my own), I'm going to take advantage of the national pause to do a little practice walk. We'll see how it goes... if it goes at all.
