congrats to South Korea

Not that I'm at all interested, but South Korea's soccer team is in Group A for this year's World Cup, and they just beat Czechia (the new, trendy, pronounce-it-this-way-from-now-on name for the Czech Republic) 2-1. And yes, I said soccer. As I note every year, soccer is as British a term as football. The original British name of the sport was association football; the "soci" in association eventually evolved into soccer. So no, soccer is not a crass American term. By the way, the s-word isn't used uniquely by the United States: The term is found in all of the following countries: the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Apparently, some parts of Ireland (don't know which) also say soccer.
