For years, I've found Scott Pelley (CBS) to be an insufferable dick, right up there with the likes of The View, Keith Olbermann, Brian Stelter, Wolf Blitzer, Jim Acosta, Rachel Maddow, and the rest of the uncountable sea of leftists who dare to call themselves journalists and pundits and commentators. So it's with some satisfaction that I now see that Pelley, pencil-necked drama queen extraordinaire, has finally been fired. It's the least of the things I'd like to see happen to him (up to and including a very slow drawing and quartering), but it's a start. Alas, the corrupt "news" ecosystem will probably hire him to be on some talk show.
It’s probably what he wanted with that tantrum. https://t.co/tlxve2p3hG

Wow! And well-deserved. In what world does someone think they can disrespect their boss in that manner without consequences? Getting fired was probably what he wanted, so he could become a hero martyr with his lefty fellow travelers.
ReplyDeleteTo play a bit of devils advocate. From what I have read, 60 minutes is a cash cow for CBS. I think I read that in 2025, it made CBS close to $70MM. The formula has worked for decades and ratings/income are as strong as they have ever been. All too often, when someone is hired to take over a successful company, show, department, etc. and feel they have to change things just because.
ReplyDeleteAnd a lot of times, the changes make things worse. So, there may be some justification on his part to question why the changes are occurring and how they will make things better. Of course, it probably helped that he knew if he got canned, he will probably land on his feet.
(regarding specifically 60 minutes, I am speaking a bit out of my ass on the subject, as I never watched it that much, and probably the last time I did was 15+ years ago)
I do agree with John. Depending on what exactly he said, it could definitely be fireable. But, if it was legitimate questioning/feedback of future plans, then Nick Bilton is definitely the wrong guy to be in charge if he can't take that type of feedback.
As is usually the case, there are two sides to every story, and the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
