Tulsi Gabbard, a Democrat, spoke at the GOP's CPAC event (CPAC = Conservative Political-action Conference). Like a lot of heterosexual guys, I kinda have a crush on Tulsi, who's a fine-looking woman and no intellectual slouch (nerdy = sexy). As a Democrat, she does espouse certain views I deeply disagree with—e.g., her stance on guns, her progressive economics, her hatred of fossil fuels, her opposition to the assassination of General Soleimani, etc.—but she at least seems like the sort of person who's a liberal and not a leftist, i.e., someone you can have a rational conversation with, and with whom you can have principled disagreements without worrying about being unfriended or attacked in some way.
I have friends who are liberals (if that doesn't sound too condescending); we disagree on many issues, but our friendship comes first. As much as I pass along political memes and blog aggressively about leftist hypocrisy, I don't consider myself a political animal first and foremost. Truth be told, I'd really rather not fight with anyone. But the left won't leave people like me alone because, to the left, everything is a matter of deadly urgency—the climate, abortion, sexuality, etc.—and everyone has to get on board! If only the left could see how its missionary zeal is an exact reflection of the religious fundamentalism it purports to hate.
So, meanwhile, I do what I can on this blog to push back against what I see as toxic encroachment. It's heartening to know that a person like Tulsi Gabbard is, while not exactly on our side, per se, at least willing to dialogue and to look critically at her own side of the aisle. Is it too much to think she might jump the fence and join the dark side? Probably.
Her speech below is pretty fiery. She's obviously had enough of her own party's shit, and that's why they're desperate to cancel her. Fight on, Lieutenant Colonel!
Yep, you are one of my stops when I get my morning fill of politics to start the day. And then I try not to think about it again until the following day. At least there is a good mix of non-political posts here to enjoy as well. Agree with you about Gabbard though. I think a lot of D-party moderates are waking up to the fact that the loony lefties are taking them over a cliff. Is it too late to stop them? Guess we'll find out in November.
