As temperatures continue to warm up in preparation for full-on spring (in Korea, mid-March is usually the time when the switch flips and temperatures suddenly bump up significantly), the fair-weather pussies have begun to make their return to the walking and biking trails. While the trails were never completely devoid of people during even the coldest days of winter, I have always ended up resenting the crowds who show up once the weather gets friendlier. Where were these people when times were hard? Sheltering in place, no doubt. Wimps. If an out-of-shape guy like me, post-stroke, can go out and brave the winter cold, these lazy fuckers can as well, but they choose not to. As we move into spring, I'll probably concentrate more on the Bundang route because it has slightly fewer people on it than the route to Jamshil Bridge does. And for weekend hikes, I've got a few planned that will take me well outside the city. JW might come along for those; we'll see.
In other news: I ordered a new pair of hiking shoes for my upcoming walk this fall. I decided to pull a John McCrarey and go with the Merrell brand; I've never tried Merrell before, and my feet are more brand-loyal than I am, so this could end up being a huge mistake, but the New Balances I've wanted to order are forever out of stock on Amazon. So, exasperated, I finally decided to branch out. The model of shoe I'm getting has a pretty decent customer rating. I'm hopeful. Will be sure to provide a full performance report once the new shoes arrive.
It's good to have options. I like New Balance too, just can't find them here. I've had really bad luck ordering shoes online. I need a good fit obviously, but some, even in my size (11), just aren't wide enough to be comfortable. I need to try a shoe on to be sure it's right for me.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your Merrells!
