Justin Trudeau, at least initially, did not step down as prime minister, but merely as the head of his liberal party. He has now also stepped down as PM. Here's Ben Shapiro with some thoughts (before the update about the PM position):
One comment below the video wryly notes: "We can thank Trudeau for causing Americans to actually note and care about what's going on in Canada." Also: Trudeau is not leaving office until there's an early vote of no confidence and/or there's a new liberal leader.
